About us..
TCS Industries started business in 1978 to manufacture airborne radioiodine measurements systems for the Nuclear Power Industry as well as the US Nuclear Navy. In 1985, TCS added radon detection by assembling a flow-through environmental radon test chamber that was used to develop and standardize our charcoal based detectors. In 1986, we became listed with the US EPA to perform radon measurements in homes and businesses using 2 different charcoal detectors that we manufacture. A tertiary radon calibration chamber was added in 2002.
Operational Experience
Since 1986, TCS has analyzed over 100,000 charcoal canisters, made over 2000 real estate related radon measurements, and has conducted a significant number of industrial radon measurements including one account of three buildings totaling over 750,000 square feet. Further, TCS holds the contract with the PA DEP to provide and analyze charcoal canisters for the Pennsylvania Newborn Program.
Certifications
Two staff members are fully certified by the Radon Division of the Pennsylvania Dept. Of Environmental Protection, PA DEP, to perform radon measurements as well as to operate our in-house radon measurement laboratory. TCS Industries Inc laboratory is also certified by the PA DEP. We routinely perform radon measurements utilizing two different charcoal based detectors that are now registered with National Radon Safety Board, NRSB. We are further certified to make and analyze continuous radon measurements, and to perform radon in water tests, and make radon grab sample measurements utilizing our Lucas cell system. We have regularly participated with the US DOE Radon Gas Intercomparison Studies. This function is now performed by the Bowser-Morner Company. In the year 2000, TCS completed the third intercomparison round with Bowser-Morner.
In 2000, a staff member was certified by the PA DEP to provide initial training for persons desiring to make commercial radon measurements in the state of Pennsylvania. This training program is also worth 16 continuing education credits to individuals who re-certify.
In 2001, the National Radon Safety Board also listed TCS to provide Initial Radon Measurement Training, and confer 16 continuing education credits. Click here for course outline.
Company Staff
Our principal technical resource person has over 45 years of professional experience in radiation protection. He is certified emeritus by the American Board of Health Physics, has earned a BS in Chemical Engineering and a Masters in Nuclear Engineering. He was principal author of over 40 scientific papers in radiation protection.
The two additional staff members have served TCS since its inception, and the most recent has 13 years of operational experience. All have earned at least Bachelor degrees.
